Freeplane and Semantic MediaWiki

Hello, I am new to the Freeplan community. I have watched FreeMind over the last decade and am very happy that there now is an active fork around. (I must admit, I never was a large mindmap user in general, but now I have some motivation to use mindmaps more often ;-).

I am a Semantic MediaWiki expert. This software has been around for a long time and there have been attempts for integration of Freemind and Semantic MediaWiki. You can find some ideas here:
    http://semanticgraph.sourceforge.net/

I have never tried this and as this is more than 10 years old, it os probably not really worth it trying to revive this old code, but the iedas as still interesting.

As Semantic MediaWiki has still avery viable community, I would be happy to discuss with you integration options and how they could be handled today.

Freeplane claims to be Knowledge Management Software as does Semantic MediaWiki, so I could see a lot of potential there.

    Best reagards,
    Bernhard

I find this possibility exciting. Can you explain more about the possible benefits of integrating Freeplane and Semantic MediaWiki? Is it more about import/export between FP and MediaWiki-formatted content? Or do the query functions allow things not currently possible in FP's query/filter functions?

One interesting opporunity would be to create MindMaps before you start implementing a project with SMW. This way you could visually sketch categories and also pages (instances) for any MediaWiki or additionally properties for Semantic MediaWiki and maybe also Forms. Then an import of data into an empty MediaWiki instance could be done, importing not only the structure done in freeplane, but probably also content (node details, node text, notes).

This could probably turn into a lightweight alternative to ontology editors like protege: https://protege.stanford.edu/ or withouth the semantics, you could think of it as mindmapping the structure of and MediaWiki.

Also the other direction can be useful: exporting (parts of) the data from a SMW instance and saving them in a format that can be opened with Freeplane. But this would require someone to write a "result format" in SMW: https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Semantic_Result_Formats
For visualising links between wiki pages, there is also the network exension: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Network (it does not requrie SMW, but visualizes all links betwenn the current page and other pages.

For embedding mindmaps in MediaWiki, there seems to be a solution already: https://www.freeplane.org/wiki/index.php/Embedding_mind_maps

Unfortunately both flash and java applets are not supported any longer (the applets probably still can run in MS Internet Explorer but in no other browsers) and therefore mind maps can not be embedded as described.
