When I set a map zoom to, say, 200%, and then try to edit the core contents of a node in dialog, the dialog box contents revert to 100%. Is there a way to set the default zoom level for contents of dialog boxes, or even to set it so that it's at least the same as the zoom level for the main map?

A possible (to be verified) workaround is to use, in the map view, the
"inc/decrease font" of a node (Ctrl-+ Ctrl--) instead of "ZoomIn/Out" .
That will change the size of the font, which should be seen both in
map-view and also in editor-view.
Maybe this can be a possible solution. Try it and report back if it works

Ctrl+ & - have no effect. I can increase the font of a selected node by using the drop-down box in the toolbar and this does indeed stay the same in the editor-view. The increased font size stays the same in sibling nodes. (I have checked the Copy format to siblings in Preferences.) But when I create a new offspring node using Ins, the font -- and the font drop-down box -- reverts to the original smaller font. I can find no setting for copying the format to offspring. Since I'm writing a book with nodes for each paragraph, this would be very clumsy. My current workaround is to use a different editor altogether for text input and then cut and paste the paragraph into the map in FreePlane. Then at the end of a chapter I drop the whole map into a word processor and change the default 10 font size in the final product. Not ideal. (P.S. I appreciate all the hard work you people are doing.)

Goto the "Map styles" (I believe its in format or edit menu) and then
change the "default" style to have the font in the increased size you like.
I believe this solves it -report back your findings

Changing the Default style font size does indeed work for changing both siblings and offspring, both in the main map and in the edit viwer. I can then reduce the main map magnification when I want a structural overview. And I can select all nodes and globally change them back to a smaller font at the end before I load the whole map into a word processor.
The change lasts for only one map. A new map reverts to font 10. Still that's a great improvement. It means I only need to change the Default once per chapter.
Thanks for all your help.

David, +1
I agree that would be great.
Sorry, not possible.

You can change your default templates used each time you create a new map so that this configuration becomes your default.
https://www.freeplane.org/wiki/index.php/Map_templates (partially outdated)
Where is the menu for changing the default styles font size? I couldn't find it with version: 1.5.20 at Tools/Preferences, nor Format/, nor Edit/
I just want to have the text in the node editor legible, as it stands now, it's really hard to read.

Menubar --> Format --> Manage Styles --> Edit styles
Please refer to attached screenshot for position.

Thanks!
