Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jim Padian (farrapo) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Mac problem with fullscreen Initial Comment: I got the new 0.3.13 Mac version to run, briefly. The screen view was small so I selected full screen mode in the menu. I had to restart the game for it to take effect. When I did it completely locked the Mac with a goofy partial screen wavy version of the UI. Even CMD Q would not exit so I manually shut down and re-ran. Same effect. So I deleted the game, re-downloaded and executed ... same effect. It seems to have done something funky to the video settings that does not reset on re-execution. No problems or effects on any other apps. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2009-06-15 11:49 Message: I don't know how to fix the problem with fullscreen itself, but in order to unset the fullscreen mode, you need to delete config.xml, which stores settings such as the video resolution and fullscreen / not fullscreen. I'm not sure exactly where this file is stored on Mac OSX, but from the code, it appears to be "home" directory / "Library" / "Application Support" / "FreeOrion" where "home" directory is probably the current user's home directory. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=544942&aid=2806597&group_id=75752 |

Cannot seem to select and send individual ships. It sends the whole home fleet or nothing. Could be related to challenges simulating right click on the Mac. Full screen definitely does not work (and default size is essentially way too small) ... tried it again and it gives the full view but locks up and there is no cursor control or even method of exiting. I think someone needs to do so some serious Mac testing before posting a Mac version. It was not irreparably hung in my case, it just looked so due to two issues: 1) In fullscreen, mouse movement is only detected while the button is held down. 2) There's no key bindings to exit the app. I will work on them in that order, but I don't have any clue right now about why the screen distorted. Was that reproducible the second time you tried? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2009-06-15 21:33 Message: You're not supposed to be able to order individual ships around. On to the next Mac topic. I cannot figure out a way to separate units in a fleet. For example, in a quick start game there is a Home Fleet consisting of three scouts and a colony ship. You want to send the scouts to different targets and leave the colony ship until you find a good one. Selecting (by highlighting) one scout and sending it with using Command to simulate right click on Mac sends all fours ships. You select a second scout and try to send it elsewhere, but that just sends the whole fleet to the new target. There seems to be no way to select and send a single ship or break the fleet into component ships. Also, I noticed that when I colonized a new system it automatically began building the same selection I had made for the original system and I could not change it. These may well be new user errors and/or lack of Mac sophistication. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Siwek (id-ego) Date: 2009-07-09 08:02 Message: The fullscreen problem turns out to be either a bug or a feature in Ogre when using the Carbon framework. https://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48056&start=0 http://www.wreckedgames.com/forum/index.php/topic,1079.0.html Unfortunately the proposed workaround solved the problem in a simple ogre demo/tutorial I used to recreate the problem, but not in FreeOrion. You order fleets to move, not ships; all ships in a fleet move together, and selecting a ship doesn't change what happens when you click to order the whole fleet to move somewhere. I suspect you are confused about how the build queue works. There is only one empire-wide queue that is always shown, no matter what system you're looking at in the production screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jim Padian (farrapo) Date: 2009-07-12 14:16 Message: The full screen problem was indeed resolved.

Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jim Padian (farrapo) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Mac problem with fullscreen Initial Comment: I got the new 0.3.13 Mac version to run, briefly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2009-07-12 14:30 Message: Ships can be moved into new fleets or other fleets by dragging and dropping. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Siwek (id-ego) Date: 2009-07-09 05:02 Message: The fullscreen problem turns out to be either a bug or a feature in Ogre when using the Carbon framework. https://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=48056&start=0 http://www.wreckedgames.com/forum/index.php/topic,1079.0.html Unfortunately the proposed workaround solved the problem in a simple ogre demo/tutorial I used to recreate the problem, but not in FreeOrion. Switching over to Cocoa sidesteps this so that's what I've done. The patched release is available on the Files page: https://sourceforge.net/projects/freeorion/files/FreeOrion/FreeOrion-0.3.13-MacOSX-i386-p1.zip/download This version will also respond to command-Q to quit and is more friendly with command-tab to switch windows. Please try it out. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Siwek (id-ego) Date: 2009-06-27 10:13 Message: I can reproduce the full screen "hang", although without screen distortion. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2009-06-15 19:33 Message: You're not supposed to be able to order individual ships around. If you want ships in a fleet to go to different locations, then separate them into multiple fleets. You can change the window size without switching to full screen mode. A reasonably small default size in windowed mode is probably necessary in case someone has a small screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jim Padian (farrapo) Date: 2009-06-15 16:05 Message: Yes, got the app running again, but there are numerous problems on the Mac. I am giving up on it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Geoff Topping (geoffthemedio) Date: 2009-06-15 11:49 Message: I don't know how to fix the problem with fullscreen itself, but in order to unset the fullscreen mode, you need to delete config.xml, which stores settings such as the video resolution and fullscreen / not fullscreen.
