FreeOrion v0.3.11 rev 2729
MS Win XP SP2 and all patches as of this date
MB Gigabyte 965P-DS3
Intel Core 2 Du0 E6420
2048 MB DDR2 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT
Dual Monitors BenQ G900 and BenQ FP93GX

Playing single player mode:

1) Extremely difficult to add a new building to production ... takes 6-14 in and outs of production window/selecting planet before game randomly allows an add. Have tried two different KBs and mice with no joy. Repeatable

2) While in game, if select a saved game and load ... the refreshed galaxy will place the planets to the left and the names to the right with large displacement between the planets and their names .... game will be in frozen state requiring a task manager end task. Repeatable

3) At turn 81 and upon clicking turn button, game flashes "downloading new game state" and crashes to desktop.

AI_1 through 3 Logs all show: "2009-01-24 21:47:31,606 DEBUG AI : ClientNetworking::NetworkingThread() : Networking thread will be terminated due to disconnect exception "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host"

I have enabled appropriate Firewall settings (and have played thru day 81 wo crash). Firewall (Comodo) has not reported any problems/blocked access.

Event viewer has not logged any info and see no evidence of any MS type error reporting. Have enclosed copy of game save. Repeatable (cannot get past day 81 crash)

Can tell lot of effort has gone into this and am aware its alpha/beta product but any of these three issues is a stopper IMO.

PS I have enclosed a zipped copy of the 4 AI Logs and the failing save game

The crash on turn 81 should be fixed in the SVN version. It has to do with an invalid character in the source code that the UTF-8 text code in v0.3.11 doesn't like. In SVN, that character has been fixed.

I can't reproduce either of your other bugs. Can you give an exact series of steps to produce them?

    1) You have to select planet to add building to queue.

    Geoff and Ondrejr,

    Ondrejr,

"takes 6-14 in and outs of production window/selecting planet" Thanks but have been selecting planet and perhaps my German throw the cow over the fence confused you ... in other words I select planet and hit F4.

    Geoff,

    Additional bug info:

    ----------------------------
    Production Bug
    ----------------------------

The production bug happens to me at every first attempt 100%. I click on a planet, either press F4 or click on production tab, click on any building/ship and click and click etc etc .... nothing is added to the production column.

I then close the production windows, again either F4 or the production tab .... select a planet and go through the process again and fail to add any production.

Since this sequence has never worked for me on first attempt and I am following the sequence spelled out by the play guide***, I cannot specify what additonal is required for bug demonstration.

*** Per the guide I do steps 1, 3, 5. Step 2 (Empire color) see no such item to click. Step 4 (category) has buildings, ships and available preselected (greyed in) when F4 is clicked so no need to deselect and reselect. Step 6 (Click Add to Queue) cannot locate such tab/button to click. A WAG is that perhaps the phrase "Left click Add to Queue" means Double left click on desired item to add it to production ... if this is a correct guess then would suggest replacing steps 5 & 6 with Double left click on desired item to add it to production.

Observation 1: would be an extreme help to both update and flesh out the "manual" and the play guide while also making it available in game via the time tested F1. IE F1 click brings up menu which has a new tab added for help while escape brings up the "quick quit" (game) and autosave.

Observation 2: a game play synopsis highlighting the incremental objectives would also assist first time players. although this could be considered optional, the omission of such should not be considered when developing a quality product such as the FreeOrion effort.

It appears that if I select a given planet (say Marklar) press F4 and then leaving production window open but click on the planet I really wish to add production (say) Adams1) that the add sequence will function correctly from there on out ... including clicking on another planet after all adds for Adams1 have been made.

If the production window is left open after the first success, one or more follow on adds for one or more different additional planets always appears to function.

    Load Game Bug
    ------------------------

Loading a saved game while in game:

I have zipped two save game files, start game loader and click load game then select my save 4a. After galaxy loads click SR to close, click menu select and load game and select my save 5. The "new" galaxy for save 5 appears (BTW a self centering game window would really be nice ... I adjusted options for my 1280x1024 other HW options at default). You should see the galaxy pretty much where and as expected however all ship icons and planet names are at the extreme right screen which doesn't allow them to match any of the planets. Side notes: selection bar missing, KB input ignored, mouse clicks on ships function and if find the correct misplaced spot for a planet then a click will bring up info BUT so far only corrective measures I have found is killing the task. Repeatable for me 100%.

    ----------

Suggest adding ability to submit a file along with this comment capability for followup info rather than requiring another incidence report be opened.

I will open a new incidence report which will discuss newly settled planet resource amount/increasing production completion times ... I WILL ATTACH A ZIP CONTAINING TWO SAVE FILES FOR THE LOAD GAME BUG to a new report titled New Planet Bug.

You have to select system, then F4 and then select your colonized planet(for example your homeworld). When planet is selected, it has white circle around it. Then you can add building(for example Imperial Palace) to queue.

When your planet is not selected, it has green circle around it.

If you're using the sourceforge bug tracker comment function, make sure you don't reload the page you get to after hitting submit. Doing this will resubmit the comment.

I can't reproduce your misplaced system name text issue. Loading save 4a then loading save 5 works fine, and everything is located where it should be, as far as I can see.

Regarding autocentring the map, this is done to centre the view on your homeworld when you start a new game. When saving a game, the position and zoom of the map is saved, and is restored when you load a game.

The quick play guide is for v0.3.0 which is quite outdated. As you note, there is no "add to queue" to click... This was a button in v0.3 that has been removed. Now you double-click items on the buildable items list to add.

Note that clicking on planets when the sidepanel is open but the production screen is not open does nothing. You can't select a planet this way.

If you have the sidepanel open, and then press F4 or the production button at the top right to open the production view, often no planet is selected by default. This is a bug, but you should click on the rotating planet graphic that is surrounded by a green circle to select the planet any time no planet is selected when the production screen is open, or when you want to change the selected planet in a system with two or more selectable planets. Then you can double-click items in the buildable items list to add them to the queue at the selected planet.

If you have the sidepanel closed when you open the production screen, by F4 or the top-right button, it should auto-select a planet. I don't know why this only happens if the sidepanel isn't open before opening the producutions screen. Again, a bug.

It would be nice if sourceforge let one attach a file to a comment, but this may not be possible. It might work if you registered and were logged in to sourceforge when commenting.

Updating the manual and quick play guides would be nice, but there are higher priorities for the people who know enough to do so. If you're interested in updating them, feel free to do so on the wiki. Adding them to the game as in-game help is a good idea. Please add a sourceforge feature request for this.

For the misplaced text and systems issue, the larger problem seems to be the crash.

Can you post freeorion.log and freeoriond.log from immediately after killing the process after this happens?

Can you tell whether the loaded game is the galaxy from the game before you loaded your save, or is it the galaxy in the loaded save? Fleet movement is likely the easiest indicator of this.
