Hi,

I'm not sure, whether or not it is allowed to submit
bugsreports for nightly builds.

But...

this error occurs when booting livecd since version 0.7.3397.

FATAL TRAP 12 : page fault while in kernel mode
cpuid = 0, apicid = 03
fault virtual address = 0x3f80
fault code = supervisor write, page not present
...
trap number 12
panic: page fault
cpuid = 0

Used system:
Dual PIII/933
Asus ServerWorks CUR-DLS latest BIOS
1GB RAM
512MB CF card on CF-IDE converter
3Ware 7500 8ch. raid controller
Promise UltraATA 100 IDE controller

Did a normal FreeBSD CD start without problems?

Can you please remove all additional hardware and check if it boots then. After that insert your additional step by step and try to boot. Hopefully we will fid out more then.

This machine allready runs the latest 0.69 from May 11 without any problems.

AFAIK one major change in 0.7.x is the upgrade to FreeBSD 7.0, correct?

So I will test booting a normal FreeBSD 7 CDRom.

To remove all additional HW from this machine is not so easy, because this chasis
is extremely full and so it is very time expensive, to do a "cleanup".

    But lets do it step-by-step.

I get a fatal trap 9 error since the 0.7 builds. 0.69 latest build works without problems.

ok, I tried to boot FreeBSD 7 livefs iso.

The system boots up until twed0 is loaded.
Then: FATAL TRAP 12 : page fault while in kernel mode.

FreeBSD 6.2 and 6.3 are booting normal, no problem.

I think BSD 7 has a problem booting a system with an
    installed HW-Raidcontroller - in my case a 3ware 7500 8ch.

What can we (I) do? This is a problem of BSD 7

    Hi,

seems to be a FreeBSD problem. Please fill out a bug report here:
    http://www.freebsd.org/send-pr.html

Ahm, please don't mention FreeNAS, don't know if this will slow down the fixing process.

    Regards

    Hi,

    well, i've done so.

Hope that they (BSD) can solve this problem.

There are several people having the same or similar problem with BSD 7.0.

I removed all of my PCI cards (PATA controller, SATA controller and NIC) and it didn't make any difference. It's still crashing :(

    Hi,

I opened a ticket at FreeBSD see:

    http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=124124

unfortunately, I'm not able to collect the needed data, because:

    1. the only machine which makes trouble is my active FreeNAS which is under high load
    2. I've tested roundabout 7 or 8 of my PCs and none of them has any problem with 0.7.xxxx
    3. I'm an absolut novice in FreeBSD
    4. I do not really know how to collect the requested data

Perhaps someone of you is able the collect this data, or can help/assist me how to do it?

    ...so please help to fixup...

Here is the answer from BSD support in short:

Sadly, given the problems you are seeing, we cannot help you. We need a
backtrace of the actual error/crash so that we can determine what is
happening here. The amount of information you are presenting is a
    start, but sadly not enough.

That said, it's probably difficult to get this information straight from
a LiveCD because it might not issue a coredump to the memory which can
    be extracted later.

Are you in the position to install 7.0 on the disk and see what is
happening then? (in that case we can probably get a coredump one
    way or the other).

    Cheers

    Hi,

I can't solve the problem but I hope I can give some infos. On nearly all of my machines FreeNAS 0.7 hangs with the error described below:
FATAL TRAP 12 : page fault while in kernel mode
    cpuid = 0, apicid = 03
    fault virtual address = 0x3f80
fault code = supervisor write, page not present
    ...
    trap number 12
    panic: page fault
    cpuid = 0

    Here is the config:
    1. Workstation
C2D E6550 on Asus Striker Extreme (nforce 680)
    4GB A-Data Ram
    2x250GB SATA HD
    2xGbit

    1. Laptop (!!)
      Pentium 4M 2,13 in Amilo M3438G (915/45 chipset?)
      2GB S0-Dimm
      2x100GB SATA HD
      1xGbit

    2. FreeNAS
      1Ghz C7 on SN10000 (VIA CN896 North + VIA VT8251 South Bridge)
      2GB DDR2
      2x1000GB SATA + 1x500GB SATA
      1x100Mbit + 1xGbit

I tried to boot up 0.7.3468.
All 3 systems got onboard raid but disabled on FreeNAS-System and workstation. The CPUs and the chipsets are very different so I think we can exclude some error sources here.
Tell me if I can do some tests somehow.
