After an upgrade from FreeNAS-generic-pc-0.685b-nb20070610.img TO FreeNAS-i386-liveCD-0.685b-nb20070707.iso I can't login to the webgui Log says: (http_auth.c.861) password doesn't match for / admin

(logging to remote server)

Resolved by setting the default settings and reboot and set everything up again.

Same thing happens upgrading from FreeNAS-i386-liveCD-0.685b-nb20070707.iso To FreeNAS-i386-embedded-0.685b-nb20070711.img and again the admin password is gone (was default freenas) and again back to default settings and configure the whole server.

Something to do with the new option change the admin user??

My /var/run/.htpasswd file had the following after an upgrade from 0.684 to 0.685b1 . . .

    admin:$1$8u2.Mzui$Z6lvZmIf6ZNSq.X8dPkbx.admin:

Note the ".admin" at the end of the password. This file is 47 bytes, 6 bytes exactly longer than the previous htpasswd file. This was after I attempted to reset the web GUI admin password via the console menu.

Restoring the previous (41 byte) htpasswd file to /var/run/.htpasswd fixed the problem. The previous file did not have ".admin" at the end of the password. I don't know why it's happening, but this is likely the what.

    Can you try 0.685b2.
    I can't duplicate this problem, 0.684b to 0.685b2
