FreeNAS build 068-RC2

If an NTP server is specified by IP address then MSNTP
will attempt a reverse lookup using gethostbyaddress()

If the address is not known on a DNS server then msntp
fails.

(My understanding was that gethostbyaddress() should
return the ip address, but it appears to return NULL)

I am using a local time server in an embedded
environment. No DNS is aware of this machine.

So the NTP server cannot be used if specified in this way.

An obvious work arround would be to place an entry for
the local time server in /etc/hosts, and yes this does
work.

But /etc/hosts is rewritten to emtpy on every restart.

You can add an entry on WebGUI: System: Hosts (permanent solution).
