I presume you mean entering the right ifconfig / route parameters (network
interface) and bringing that interface up, right?

One more idea: what if you run the clearing program just before ifconfig
and/or route ? So you take all the free memory, clear it and release. If
that fixes the issue then we might have another interesting pointer, i.e.
that with a high probability the problem is in ifconfig/route itself.
