Dear all, currently, our web page is not available (ie. empty). The cause may be, that our old mediawiki version doesn't support php5.3. Thus, I'm upgrading to the latest mediawiki currently. Hello Chris, sounds great! However, anons are now able to edit the wiki. There should be a way to prevent this, by editing LocalSettings.php. Preventing anonymous editing worked before the wiki upgrade, but for some reasons no longer works. Maybe the new version of MediaWiki has a different way of preventing anonymous editing; I don't know. I cannot edit LocalSettings.php myself. Dear Dan, ok, seems done. The settings have been changed in the mediawiki versions. BTW: You can edit the file via sftp. https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Project%20web#ChangesasofFebruary2011 I'm still very disappointed of the contents of this wiki especially all that spam. I tried to move the wiki to a hosted app: https://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/freemind/index.php?title=Main_Page Advantages: * almost no spam, due to user management by sf.net * Security fixes for mediawiki by sf.net Disadvantages/Problems: * How to integrate mindmaps (former <mm> extension, which can't be installed here). Any ideas? * Ads by google at the top.... Still to do: * Missing images Perhaps, you have some ideas. Best regards, Chris Am 13.02.11 14:54, schrieb Dan Polansky: > Hello Chris, > > sounds great! If someone wants to edit the wiki he writes in our forum his wiki user name to be allowed to do it. Such people so not became bureaucrats, they can not change other people's roles, they can only edit. This way we have now spam any more. Regards, Dimitry |

Hello Chris, I really see no need to move the wiki to a hosted app. We can restrict the editing to admins, as Dimitry mentioned, if you see the spam as such a big problem. Recently, I have been extending the spam filter with further filtering terms, and it seems to work in part, but requires more finetuning with more anti-spam terms. Admittedly, we do not get much useful contribution to wiki by non-admins anyway, so locking it down to admins seems a workable idea. Hello Chris, on another note, I really cannot edit LocalSettings.php. The file is owned by you (user "christianfoltin"), and is in the group "apache". The user rights of the file are "rwxr-xr-x", so you are the only person who can write to the file. Best regards, Dan |

Hi Dan, sf.net has changed the meaning of the rights (see the link with recent changes, I sent to you). AFAIK, that I am the owner does only mean, that I created the file. You *should* be able to edit it. Have you actually tried it? Hello Chris, I have actually tried editing the file in WinSCP today. I can view the file, but when I try to save it, it says "Permission denied". But I get the same message ("Permission denied") even when I try to save files that are owned by my user. You are right; the user permissions of the file should not be the problem. It follows from this: https://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/sourceforge/wiki/Project%20Web%20Filesystem%20Permissions "Project-Member Permission (in "user" bits) * Any user who is a member of a project with shell permissions gets these rwx permission bits for the project's files. ..." I now understand that the user bits in the permissions actually apply to all members of a project with shell permissions. Could it be that I am not a member of the project with shell permissions? I don't know. In any case, you are right: this really seems to have nothing to do with your ownership of the file. Either something is wrong with the way I connect from WinSCP to SourceForge, or there is something wrong with my user and its shell permissions for FreeMind project, or there is some other cause. I am sorry for keeping you busy. Hello, 2 thoughts: 1. there is some "magic" involved in what SF is doing and I could imagine that you don't get the magic if you use SCP because you don't have then a proper shell. Do you get also the problem if you connect through SSH and edit the file on the command line? 2. stupid thought but sometimes those are the right ones: you didn't forget the ,freemind addition to your username e.g. 'dan, freemind' instead of 'dan'? Hope this helps, Eric Dan Polansky said: > Hello Chris, > > I have actually tried editing the file in WinSCP today. I can view the > file, but when I try to save it, it says "Permission denied". Hello Eric, thank you for the tips. WinSCP is mentioned by SF as one of the recommended programs. I am actually using SFTP protocol and user name "danielpolansky" without "freemind". When I try to log in to "web.sourceforge.net" on port 22 using SFTP and "danielpolansky, freemind", I get the message "Access denied". Logging in using "danielpolansky" has worked before the recent changes made by SF, and I could edit the wiki config file. Logging in using "danielpolansky" still works for viewing the files but not longer for writing to the files. Hi Dan, could be the problem, but I haven't tried since the changes, just guessing: I used to use "shell.sourceforge.net" as server and "ewl, freemind" as user, and SCP as protocol (also port 22), and it used to work. Hi Daniel, could it be that WinSCP doesn't tell you the whole truth: $ scp test ewl,fre...@sh...:/home/project-web/freemind/htdocs ewl,fre...@sh...'s password: You don't have an active shell at this time. For basic file transfers and management, use web.sourceforge.net -- it allows rsync, sftp, and scp access. If you would like to create a shell, use ssh to login using a USER,PROJECT username with the "create" command. If you tell ssh to allocate a tty (e.g. using -t), an interactive shell will be opened when the create is done. Otherwise, the create command will exit when the shell becomes ready for use. An example create that enters the shell when ready: ssh -t USER,PR...@sh... create lost connection If I create the shell prior to trying to transfer files, it works like a charm. Under Windows, the ssh client of choice is Putty if I remember well (or Cygwin and install OpenSSH). On the other hand, sftp directly to web.sourceforge.net does work properly for me without creating a shell before!? I can even download a file from you and re-upload it again without issue. Perhaps you don't have the rights needed?! Chris, can you compare Stan and my rights? Dear Dan, the final version is published at the file section. I'll wait some few days, before doing the announcement. Before, I'll test the versions on all platforms for being functional. Best regards, Chris |

Dear Chris, waiting several days before announcing the final version, and doing more testing on more platforms is a sound approach. Sounds really good to me. One never knows where more bugs lurk. Hi Dan and Eric, updated. Maybe that was it. BTW, I only use the sftp thing. The shell is only used, when really needed (eg. to execute server side scripts like update.sh on mediawiki). Hello Chris, works now. Thanks for the update of my permissions in "freemind" project. I use "danielpolansky, freemind" with SFTP and "web.sourceforge.net" on port 22, and it works. --Dan On Wed, Feb 16, 2011 at 10:05 PM, Christian Foltin (GMX) <chr...@gm...> wrote: > Hi Dan and Eric, > > updated.
