Dan, I don't agree, that we should publish the next beta. As we announced, we have closed all bugs known to us and are ready to publish RC1. That this version may contain more than zero bugs is possible (and probable) but this is true for all versions and thus we would never be able to publish any versions. So, I propose to publish RC1 as our promise from the developers that we have finished the feature and first bug fixing phase and to start the release challange. This is along what you stated in our wiki: "Release Candidate is a version in which there are neither errors nor changes pending that the developers would know of at the date of publishing." I second this: most of the bugs raised by Dan have already been fixed in CVS, the remaining ones are not assigned and not important. Dan: you should use categories to properly assign your bugs. Hello, regarding the importance of the bugs I have reported: I have reported them because I consider them important. I am focusing on these issues that present a _regression_ to 0.8.0. A great majority of the bugs I have reported should be fixed before I will send next batch of bug reports. Best reggards, Dan |

I'm back from Florida, so I'll try to help out more with the testing. I'm sorry I haven't been able to do more. I haven't had as much free time as I expected. I've also gotten distracted. BTW, my mother is doing much better. She had pneumonia, which is tough to deal with when you are her age. Hopefully, she'll continue to improve. Hi Dan, I do not see the logic behind: the sooner you send the new bug reports the earlier I can do the fixes concerning my responsibility area. Currently I can do just nothing about the already reported bugs. Any new bug reports are welcome. Hi, the conversation stopped here, so: do we release RC1 or not? And if not, what is the trigger to do so? Chris, I know you're busy but your decision is greatly needed here as well. Hopefully, we can clear out the remaining bugs quickly on Beta15. I'll try to make more time to actually do some testing on this pass. Between all my other stuff and mother getting sick, life has been way more exciting than I need it to be. Hello, currently I am aware of some quite important problems reported by the users. See https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1825889&group_id=7118&atid=107118 https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1831772&group_id=7118&atid=107118 https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4612920 I am going to fix the issues next week because I do not have enough time before. The issues are not very high priority, and IMHO RC1 may be released even before I perform these bug fixes. Dimitry |

Hello Chris, my position is clear: the next version should be beta, as there are going to be many bugs in it. Your arguments do not reflect our experience from 0.8.0development. If you do not want me to be the FreeMind director, just let me know. Otherwise, please let the next version in beta status. Chris wrote: > That this version may contain more than zero bugs is possible (and > probable) but this is true for all versions and thus we would never be able > to publish any versions. > I do not follow this argument; to me, it is apparently wrong. The expression at stake is not "more than zero" (#bugs > 0), but rather "many" (#bugs >> 0). And I am saying that RC is a version in which there is a chance that no more bugs will be found, although also a chance that still further bugs will be found. This definition of RC leads to resulting 2 to 3 RCs, not 6 like we had in 0.8.0.
