I'm curious, can't you just branch off another tree for those people who want to work on features for the next release. I doubt you'll get them to help debugging on 0.9.0 anyway, since they are new, and it might keep them involved in the project. Once 0.9.0 is out, we can merge the trees and continue on. Or am I missing something important?
