I love this software, but I spend far too much time aligning nodes to make the map look clear and concise. A cluttered layout can destroy what Freemind intends to do - make complex things become clear. Why can I not select a group of nodes and align them? I saw this in the requested feature list, but there seems no effort on this. I consider this a must.
Helpful hints appreciated - Thomas
obviously you're not making a mind map but instead some structure diagram. In case of most mind maps, there is no need to align nodes at all (check illustrations at <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_map>).
For structured diagrams, FreeMind does not fit well, the best thing you can do now is probably use something else (XMind for example).
I beg to disagree.
If you look at Freemind's own screenshots at http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page#Screenshots you will see the nodes nicely lined up - I am talking about vertically. But once you move any of them it is a pain to get them back into alignment. When your mindmap gets complex it makes a lot of difference.
well, you said the cause of problem :)
To quickly resolve the problem, you may "reset" nodes position, so nodes will become aligned strictly, but you'll loose all moves you've already done. I don't see other way.
Yep, that is the problem I was referring to in my first post. I would love to see that fixed. Others do, too.
