I'd recommend trying freeloader linux in VMWare / qemu to save a DVD image.
Another alternative is to create a bootable USB stick with unetbootin:

The password for the freeloader user is "free". The root password is also free but may have been changed to fr33. Please report any issues.

If the GUI (X) does not start, type these commands:

sudo Xorg -configure
sudo cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
startx
