FreeImage 3.9.0 released

FreeImage is an Open Source library project for developers who would like to support popular graphics image formats like PNG, BMP, JPEG, TIFF and others as needed by today's multimedia applications. FreeImage is easy to use, fast, multithreading safe, compatible with all 32-bit versions of Windows, and cross-platform (works both with Linux and Mac OS X).

Thanks to it's ANSI C interface, FreeImage is usable in many languages including C, C++, VB, C#, Delphi, Java and also in common scripting languages such as Perl, Python, PHP, TCL or Ruby.

The library comes in two versions: a binary DLL distribution that can be linked against any WIN32 C/C++ compiler and a source distribution. Workspace files for Microsoft VC++ 6 and VS.Net 2003 are provided, as well as makefiles for Linux, Mac OS X and Solaris 9.

What's new for FreeImage ?

Release 3.9.0 brings two new plugins for SGI and raw FAX G3 formats, better support for HDR images in the rescale function, a new thumbnail generation function, as well as several internal code enhancements. The library has been updated with the new libtiff (3.8.0) and libpng (1.2.12) libraries. FreeImage is also distributed with improved wrappers (VB6/VBA, C++ and Delphi). Lastly, many bugs reported by our users have been fixed (check the changes log for details) and the PDF documentation has been updated.
