While working on the fonts, I produced a "fonts" demo in OpenGLUT. It originally was just to investigate how OpenGLUT rendered the fonts, but it also proved useful for seeing how old GLUT---and freeglut---handled things. One thing that the demo does is position the symbols on the window in rows and columns. To make a suitable new row, of course, I needed to know the height of the fonts. And since old GLUT did not provide this function, I wrote a glutBitmapHeight(), to be used only with old GLUT. That brings us to why I'm posting to this list in a new thread. It seems that the freeglut glutBitmapHeight() function returns, e.g., 14 for the 8x13 font. I've always taken the 13 in 8x13 to be the full distance between adjacent lines, just as 8 is the full distance between adjacent characters in one line. That is, I'd think that for the 8x13 font, the height should be 13. For the 24-pixel Times font, the height should be 24. Am I mistaken in my expectations? --=20 "I probably don't know what I'm talking about." http://www.olib.org/~rkr/ |
