hello lothar - this is beyond my scope of knowledge
thanks for your comments... for a while I was wondering if this means that
this is a definite no i.e. some official statement from freeglut developers.
Is it? Are you a developer?
Anyhow, I found out that it has something to do with missing libraries
(headers). In particular /X11/extensions/XInput2.h (or something). I tried to
install all available headers from CentOS 5 (latest edition) and search
rpmforge as well. No luck.
Then, not knowing what behooved me, I tried to compile freeglut-2.8.0 on a new
(CentOS is new) CentOS 6.2 machine and voila, no trouble. configure runs
through and make runs without a hitch.
Have not tested my program yet ... If it is still broken I will send another
post, otherwise this can be considered solved. I still would like to have it
run on CentOS5... but eventually every OS will be upgraded.
