OK, I found where I was saying


which puts the root directory in the "-I" but not the "freeglut" include.  Sorry about bothering everybody with my mistakes.

So put it in some local directory (eg /home/johnfay/GL/freeglut.h) then
put -I/home/johnfay on the compiler command line.

The second law of Frisbee throwing states: "Never precede any maneuver
by a comment more predictive than "Watch this!"...it turns out that
this also applies to writing Fragment Shaders.
