Gentlemen,

        Unless somebody (like Steve) screams, I will start taking out the assertion checks from the geometry functions.  I will also (in my copious free time) look around the other functions to see which, if any, REALLY need the call to "glutInit".

        If you have some suggestions for informative error messages, please forward them to me.  I am always open to suggestions.

      If this is addressed, freeglut could be upgraded at the same
time to make such error messages more informative.  For instance,
certain operations will fail because no window is created yet, but
the error message will not identify the kind of mistake that caused
the failure.  Punishment for stupid errors need not involve having to
spend hours trying to deduce what the error was.
