I agree - keeping GLUT compatibility is more important.

I can't imagine any 'real' applications actually using the GLUT shape renderers,
and all the demos I know use much higher tesselation limits.

The potential benefit of fixing this is so close to zero - and the potential
risk from knowingly breaking compatibility - whilst close to zero - *isn't*
zero.
