Cancel that last.  In today's CVS tarball, in "freeglut_main.c" insert the following after line 159:

  static void fghRedrawWindowByHandle ( SFG_WindowHandleType handle )
      SFG_Window* window = fgWindowByHandle( handle );
      freeglut_return_if_fail( window );
+     freeglut_return_if_fail( FETCH_WCB ( *window, Display ) );

      window->State.Redisplay = GL_FALSE;

That fixes the problem for me.  It now remains to see why removing this should have caused a problem in the first place.

I can't see that it is acting unusual.  Is it an obvious problem, or something
moderately subtle?
