You did an excellent job with the driver!

My Freecom Portable I works perfectly well with MacOS 10.1.5 &
Toast 5.1.3.

However, trying to burn a CD ROM from the desktop results in
error message "unkown error (error 4)". iTunes does not even
recognize the burner although the apple system profiler states that
the drive is supported by apple disk burning.
