I'm playing with latest version 0.10.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 (32) with Sun java7, 4GB RAM Dell Latitude D630.
I have tried with "java -Xmx512M -jar FreeCol.jar" and even 1024, also with the "-windowed" switch.
The game is overall slow : units move, map navigation, end of turn, … . It doesn't take ages but selecting and moving a unit takes something like between 5 and 10 seconds, an end of turn about 30 seconds (very beginning of the game, all default options chosen). On Ubuntu 11.10 I did not experience this.
Do you also experience this? Any hints or tips?
For the rest… still one of the most enjoyable and addictive games I've ever played. Keep on the good work !
Known issue, caused by a nasty interaction between Java, X, and your graphics hardware. See:
Thank you ! I confirm the option that adds "-Dsun.java2d.pmoffscreen=false" to the freecol launch command solves the issue.
