1) Simplify network so that the airport and my laptop
are the only ones on the lan (one hub, two cables).
2) Set ip address statically on laptop to
192.168.100.1 and netmask 255.255.255.0
3) Hold down the reset button on the airport until the
center light turns amber-red.
4) Close Freebase (if open). (lesser bug: If Freebase
is open and the reset button is pressed, Freebase
never recognizes that the station has changed to
virgin mode.)
5) Start Freebase.
6) Select the only base station in the discovery
window.
7) Freebase states that the station is in virgin mode
and needs an IP value on the same network. Supply
192.168.100.(2). Click "Ok".
8) At this point, there's one of two responses.
Either nothing happens and the virgin base station
dialog simply disappears or the "Reading
configuration" dialog appears for a few seconds and is
replaced with "No response from Base Station. Did you
type the right password?" In either case, I don't get
a chance to reset the password/other info.
This could be a result of a problem with my base
station, but I don't see exactly how, since it appears
to work just fine (I just happened to forget the
password for it).
