For some weeks now, whenever our users try to access the demo of our software on our SF project web space they get the error:

Fatal error: failed to connect to database : User m5113rw already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections

I have tried configuring the database connections to both persistent and non-persistent and still the problem persists. Is there anything else we can do?

Could you give more info on the frequency of this? I've checked your project pages a few times and while the page seems to be loading quite slowly, it does seem to work for me, and I haven't gotten a connection limit error.

Ack, sorry! I forgot about your reply.

We changed both of our demo installations to not use persistent MySQL connections and the problem does seem to have gone away.
