    Hi all,

I am looking for developers for Controlix, a (currently alpha status) operating system project. The project is written in (currently) VHDL and (moving forward) SpecC. You can find the SpecC homepage on Google, and there are VHDL tutorials all over the place if you want to work on porting the (minimal) VHDL code from the prealpha release to SpecC. This is one of the best research os projects to work on, if I do say so myself. Head on over to the tSF.net Controlix page and read the FAQ for my justification for claiming this.

    Hi,
I have good coding experience in C but nil experience in VHDL or Hardware. I would be happy to contribute - any tips for getting started?.

Most of the existing VHDL code is procedural and not the "wierd" type of code, since the project is in an early stage. Since VHDL is based on an old version of the Ada language, which is procedural, you should be able to quickly learn to make analogies of C. Also, since everything is currelty running in a software-only simulator and not working yet on FPGA/CPLD style programmable hardware, you won't have to learn that end of things yet either. Finally, you can always ask a question on the mailing list or the forum (neither of which has been used yet), I will receive a notification email telling me that a new message is available and will always respond.

    Hi Jon,

This looks like a very interesting project; from I can gather, you're attempting to put an OS kernel in HDL ( SpecC ). I'm not sure how much time I can dedicate; but if you have a mailing list of to-do's please add me. I was considering adding my email to controlix-devel ( SF -> general -> subscribe ) but it doesn't look like anyone is using that.

Just a few questions though; Do you have this project uploading to a FPGA dev board and if so which one - or just using GHDL for simulation?

I am exactly trying to make an OS kernel in SpecC |->. I have a (somewhat) out-of-date list of milestones for the first beta release (0.1) on the SF.net bugtracker for the project. And the project is currently simulation-on-POSIX using GHDL and SpecC only.
