I dont want to lie to anyone and say that I am very experienced or good at coding. To be honest, its really probably beyond my level to really succeed at creating such a project, especially on my own.
but I have a strong belief in teh future of such a project. I feel that the open source community can create a tablet OS by users and for users that embodies all the things we love about simplistic, fast mobile style OS's that also allows new 2 in 1 style tablets to run x86_64 desktop apps.
I Believe a framework for developing touch apps could be built that could coincide peacefully with normal apps coded in x window, gtk or kde widgets.
combining the design ideas of things like android and iOS with the power of compatibility with desktop pc hardware and applications.
instead of a focus on maintaining familiarity with the desktop environment itself. I think creating a unique environment from the bottom up, possibly using an already existing minimalist window manager as a code base,
I also think custom tailoring the OS to run minimally and effectively on the device is also important. I dont know exactly if its possible to create some power saving semi active sleep mode but that would be a huge bonus if possible.
I really feel like this is inevitable eventually.
some day, people will pick up an old cheap windows tablet with a still running ssd and go looking for a more suitable operating system for it.
and linux has the power to be faster, more efficient, and the benefit of a strong open source community backing that could make it better and better. that could create a hybrid tablet/desktop operating system in a way so ingenuitive, so effective.
that it could be a design marvel.
I think this is the sort of thing that linux was made for. and im hoping I can find some people on here more experienced than me who are interested in discussing, planning/desiging, and working on such a project.
so far, microsoft definitely accomplished creating tablets that can run desktop apps.
lets make it linux, NOT apple or microsoft, that is the the first one to blend desktop and tablet effectively and elegantly.
AND we can make it secure, open source technology that everyone can enjoy.
maybe im crazy. but I believe on a task like this, with the experience we already have with existing projects, that the open source linux community has the potential to create a really amazing tablet operating system. blending speed, form, function, and compatibility in a way thats often been dreamed, but never quite accomplished.
I think this is the sort of thing linux was built for.

I do want to work on it too. I know c/c++ a little and i intend to go back to college for computer science and programming soon. If Im really worth my salt I can learn and be part of it.
I feel ashamed asking others to uptake such a big project with someone whos struggled with simpler tasks. but it would be a great learning experience and something id be proud to have been a part of starting.
I just really truly feel there are others out there with the same idea as me, and that opening a dialog about it could really get the ball rolling somewhere.
I know ubuntu did this with unity, but its not something that can be obtained free and fully open source to all devices.
I also believe a better linux OS can be built for tablets than the mobile ubuntu. one that can be released like any distro.
Sorry for ranting, and if nothing else I hope someday someone else sees this and starts the project I couldnt.

Hi at all, first things before u want to create such distro, on wich device u want to code?
Then there is the second one, look at sailfish os! What i meant is, that they using one device with specific hardware, the reason is, it is simpler and the same like Playstation or Xbox, u have the ability to optimize this system much easier !
Then the third thereare many distributions outthere, sowhy another one?
For ur learning stuff i think ubuntu Touch is good for u!
