Project hermes-eos is looking for one or more C programmers with good-to-excellent Mac-specific know-how in order to make a best-effort attempt at recompiling the successor to Eudora, a much-beloved e-Mail client in Carbon, to run on Intel Macs, and potentially further to develop it.
It is known that this project can be compiled and linked, at least in principle; there are a number of issues of lesser or greater tedium, and one that may potentially pose a bit of a challenge: to wit, the resource forks found in the source distribution—which were distributed as RSRC binaries—got corrupted and thought lost, but the resources managed to be recovered as one 5.7mb file in Rez source.
Other than this, there's really only two known stumbling blocks: first, there are a few potentially missing C files providing access to some common backend code (Kerberos authentication etc.), and second, there is the fact that the brute-force conversion from Metrowerks Codewarrior to an old version of Xcode was performed by someone who is not really a programmer, least of all using a compiled language such as C. Note: "potentially" missing should be taken to mean they may be distributed either with one of the Metrowerks utilities or Xcode itself.
It is hoped that the end result will amount to a usable mail user agent (MUA) that will compile and link using Xcode 11.3.1 and run on macos 10.14 "Mojave". Some thought may be given to a Cocoa port of the user interface, but this may prove excessively laborious and it is certainly unnecessary to put the cart before the horse, even mentally.
