The UpStage team is looking for anyone interested in joining a video hack project that aims to add audio-visual streaming functionality to the UpStage platform. Skills needed are Actionscript2 and Python 2.x. Experience with Twisted and Red5 would be useful as well.
Work on the video hack is beginning now, with the intention to have a test version ready in mid-February and fully functional by mid-March 2013.
UpStage is an open source web-based platform for cyberformance: it allows remote players to collaborate in real-time in the presention of live performances for online audiences. Players can create digital media (graphics, animations, video, audio) and upload these items to UpStage, where they can be manipulated in real-time along with live drawing,
text2speech, web cam image feeds, and text input from the audience. Everything takes place in the web browser so no download is required for players or audience.
UpStage is used by artists around the world and is currently maintained by volunteer programmers and a team of students from Auckland University of Technology (NZ). It is in active development.
