#9 Wiki Page Aliases

Currently, Allura wiki pages have exactly one name. That name is displayed to visitors in the title bar of the page, and it is used for linking.

This leaves wiki authors with two options:

  • Use a human-readable name. It looks nice in the page title bar, but it might easily change at some point, meaning you are breaking all the links. Also, writing links is cumbersome because of the long text.
  • Use an abbreviated identifier. Links are robust as the identifier probably will not change, and they are short in wiki source code, but visitors of the wiki see a cryptic text in the title bar.

A solution would be a list of allowable aliases for each wiki page. While the title bar of each page could still show a human-readable text, other wiki pages (and other markdown texts in Allura in general) could refer to the wiki page by its page alias/one of its page aliases, which can be any kind of persistent page identifier devised by the wiki author.
