Dead CMS projects hampering searches
Just a general suggestion which might improve the visitor experience - Perhaps the search function should be adjusted to reduce the number of dead projects being listed in some categories. Content management systems seem to be a case in point. Any search for 'CMS' turns-up page after page of dead projects with zero downloads and no hosted files. Even with the filter set to 'Production/Stable' the situation is not much better.
I'm the lead developer of Mara CMS ( http://sf.net/projects/maracms ) and I find this situation makes it hard to achieve any project visibility on SF. I imagine it also makes things difficult for anyone searching for a suitable CMS product.
I guess many of the dead projects are probably abandoned college coursework. Though, why people would list projects with no files as Production status, heaven knows.
Wondered if there are any thoughts on this?
Perhaps it should be addressed as a more general issue, that the Search function should give precedence to projects with files available over those with none.
Or alternatively, if projects have not been updated in a year and have no files (of any age) hosted, then perhaps they should be flagged for deletion and the owner notified. If no response within a month, it bites the dust. That would prune out most of the dead wood.
