Hi, I am writing about hinting problems of Liberation Fonts, which source files are converted from ttf into sfd by fontforge. Hope it still relevant to post a message here. As per previous report, this is the bug which the reporter recorded his findings about hinting problems on Liberation Fonts: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=458592 Since the original .ttf was converted into .sfd, there seems to be some data lost especially on hinting. The .ttf that was converted back from .sfd has same problems also. The screenshots are attached on the above bug report. I have tested and ensured there are no differences between original 1.03 version and converted 1.04 version, on Fedora. However, the reporter on the above bug report stated that since TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER of libfreetype6 is not activated on Fedora, it hasn't got problem during my testing. My question is, is there high possibility that some hinting data was lost during the conversion? Besides checking the 4 tables in 'Hinting' menu on Fontforge, what could I do to check on the hinting tables? This is the only unhinted glyph among Latin/Cyrillic letters. I don't know however on which editing stage the data loss has occured (BTW I could not find SFD sources for 1.04 anywhere on the web). There are other rendering differences caused by different hinting in 1.03 and 1.04, but these seem to be improvements (e. g. compare the "a" on two screenshots). -- Regards, Alexej Kryukov <anagnost at yandex dot ru> Moscow State University Historical Faculty |

I reported the same bug on the Fedora Trac system, and can further confirm there is definitely something wrong with the hinting of 'y' in Liberation Sans. In this bug report, I attached screenshots taken in Ubuntu (which comes with bytecode interpreter enabled) and Windows. https://fedorahosted.org/liberation-fonts/ticket/2 -- Cody "codeman38" Boisclair co...@zo... http://www.zone38.net/ |
