I work a lot with network folders on servers. When folder size is enabled it scans that folders, which causes really a lot of network traffic, because.
There should be a check box in the Properties where one can disable the scanning of network folders.

Same for optical drives like CD or DVDs. Some dvd authoring SW like Panasonics DVD MovieAlbumSE wants full control over the drive and report an error when folder size is on. The easiest way to avoid this, is a drive exclusion list, like most AV tools have.
