here are the steps I did:

1. Get the nightly tarball (or grab from SVN)
2. Untar to my web directory
3. Copy config.php.sample to config.php and change settings
4. Connect to MySQL via command line and create fofredux db
5. Open web browser to http://localhost/fofredux/install.php
6. Get error :)

For the past couple of checkouts/updates I've been using an existing
db. This was the first time in awhile that I tried to do a clean
install, since I'm installing it on my desktop at home (Mac OS X)

I have preliminary new UI implemented, but really need to test it out
before checking anything in and want to work locally (usually work by
vi over ssh :)
