You can just use the command line SVN to get and do anything you want,
like CVS.
A quick synopsis of SVN:
checkout:
:~/ $> svn co http://path_to_project/trunk local_dir
update
:~/project $> svn up
commit
:~/project $> svn commit file_to_commit
etc.
most of the commands are *very* similar or the same (for the command
name, flags differ) to CVS.
