#3 less compatible scaling broken

using ft 0.0.17:

scaling of maps without using the "more compatible
scaling" checkbox seems to be broken all the time for
me. i use several maps stretching across quite a big
region (more than france, actually), this may be part
of the problem. when i had only one map calibrated,
both settings worked.

this is sad, as the resolution in "more compatible"
mode is so bad that it is not possible to read city
names in the average expedia map.
