I do think we need to be realistic here: The G1000 is a fairly significant piece of computer hardware that we're going to emulate. It's not going to be "free" particularly for those on older hardware that's already struggling. However, hopefully we can offload a chunk of the logic (route management, autopilot/flight director) to the core, and do things like offline generation of terrain maps to minimize the impact. I think we do a pretty good job of supporting older hardware. If anything, the core itself is getting more efficient, and we have had releases with non-trivial performance improvements. The flip side is that aircraft models are becoming more advanced, and we introduce features such as the OSM buildings that require more powerful hardware. The latter are always optional, and I put a lot of effort into ensuring that when such features are off they have no impact on users. For example, if you disable OSM buildings, they won't even be downloaded by Terrasync. Complex aircraft models are a trickier topic. It may be that users of older hardware simply won't be able to run a G1000-equipped C182T, and will have to run an older steam-gauge version. -Stuart |
