No

Hi,

I installed the latest FlightGear 2020.4.0, last modified 2021-06-09 at 09:15. However, I got the "No metar available" message no matter which airport I went. I checked on my firewall and all was good.

What /exactly/ did you do?
Ans: Start Flightgear normally with Detailed Weather selected.
How did you expect FlightGear to respond?
Ans: Flightgear should fetch live weather data from noaa.gov.
What did you see instead?
Ans: "No metar available" message.
What version are you using?
Ans: Latest FlightGear 2020.4.0, last modified 2021-06-09 at 09:15
What operating system?
Ans: Windows 10

Thank you.

Findings: Starting FG by command lines without launcher seems to be a workaround.

At least for me on next, it's working correctly. I've asked some other folks to test and report back.

Hi James, thank you for your response.

I was using the Feb build before this without this issue. Just tested current stable release: 2020.3.8 and all was good too.

Answering your mail on the ML: I can't reproduce either, but from VT's log this doesn't look like a network issue:

       56.86 [INFO]:environmentC:\Jenkins\workspace\Windows-nightly\flightgear\src\Environment\environment_mgr.cxx:378: FGEnvironmentMgr::update: No airport within 100NM range
56.86 [INFO]:environmentC:\Jenkins\workspace\Windows-nightly\flightgear\src\Environment\environment_mgr.cxx:436: Auto Tower: now Nimitz

FG seems to fail to find any airport? If so, it would explain METAR not working.

Is there any way I can download an older build of the nightly version? Thank you.

I'm able to reproduce this on Linux/Ubuntu - I can make the launcher work by deleting the nav data cache file (navdata_2020_4.cache) before starting the launcher. You may want to check if this also works on Windows

Hi peridotite, that works for me! That explains why I felt it was an intermittent problem. I "cleaned up" the flightgear.org folder a few times while trying to resolve the issue. Is this a bug with the version, or just a problem on my computer?

      Thank you so much!

I'm not the authority on what the issue is but it looks like it could be a bug related to the compiler used for different builds. James has pushed a fix that I have tested as working on Linux, and he has started a new nightly build - you should be able to test this when the new builds are done & uploaded.

Great to know that! Thank you guys for the effort.

On a side note, this is really a good place to report a bug or finding a fix.
