#2597 Crashing Aircraft above the ground (before hitting ground)

No

My Actual milestone is 2020.3.8 (not listed on this system dropdown)

If I fly towards the ground, even being 50-70 ft or so(??) away from the ground... the planes wing gets damaged.
This shouldn't happen the plan is not even near the ground yet.
It doesn't do it if I am trying to land and make a slow descending approach.
Only If I am coming down (doing acrobatics) at a fiailry steep angle.
After "hitting" wing, i can still pull up before crashing.
And no, I am not bouncing off the ground.
This happens a lot.
I am only using the default aircraft that comes in the initial install.
I am new, so I have not added any mods or planes yet.
Windows 10
Xbox One Controller

    which craft are you using?
are you using any custom scenery?
where are you flying? airport ICAO?

I said in my first post... the default one that comes with the initial install.
Again.... I have install nothing extra. No mods, no scenery, no planes.
I am flying in the default location the intial game starts you at.

Brand new to game... have done nothing to it. Just trying to see if I can use it.

Also, the controls are very sensitive. Is there a way to fix that?

ok... that would appear to be the c172p, then...

that would appear to be BIKF in Iceland...

do you have terrasync enabled? that's the "automatically download scenery"
      option in the launcher settings...

i'm trying to envision how you may be hitting the ground before hitting the
actual textures of the ground... it almost sounds like the ground surface
textures are misplaced... or you are not seeing some object that you should be
      seeing...

      you should be able to...

Also, the controls are very sensitive. Is there a way to fix that?

which controls are you using? mouse? keyboard? joystick? some controller?

do you have a topic about this on the forums? if yes, please link it so we can
more easily discuss and have more eyes on the trouble you are having...

Yes, auto download scenery is on.

As I said at the beginning I use Xbox One Controller.

As an observation: none of our FDMs are really rated for acrobatic flight, and the C172 is not tested in those kind of manouvers. So if you are doing very high-energy movements, you might be hitting edge cases in the simulation data. We'd need someone from the C172 team to comment on that, however.

(The fact you can land correctly if you fly slowly, makes me think it's basically working as designed)

Regarding control sensitivity: the analog sticks on an Xbox(etc) controller are not good for flying. They are much too sensitive, better to use the mouse or get a real joystick / yoke. But, maybe some pople on the forums have other solutions, better to ask there for ideas.

Did a test with the Cessna 182S and had no problems.
Got off ground fine with no issues.
So, it does look like an issue with the 172P.

Also, changing aircraft also gave me more stable movement.

I don't think using the 172P is a good airplane as the default.
A lot of new people will get the wrong impression of the simulation.

I almost quit myself until I delved into it deeper.
May not be the case for other newbies.

Hi Frank, I just tested this and I can't reproduce it at all --> I put the latest version of the C172P in a very steep sideslip (bank angle exceeding 60 degrees) and the wing did not break until the wing tip actually physically touched the ground. I made sure of this by looking in external view and the wing only got damaged when the wingtip intersected the surface of the ground.

Note that if you are overspeeding, the wing may get damaged and then break entirely, so that's a possible explanation of what happened.

Well, but that IS NOT happening. I am not braking the wing off. Like I said, I am NOT hitting the ground and I can climb up before hitting the ground. If you loose a wing or damage it enough it will crash which I have done at other times. NEVER mind. I must be crazy.

Do what you will... just close the ticket. It doesn't matter, I won't be using FlightGear anymore... too buggy
