[FlexCP-devel] Re: why is there no activty in flexcp?

(I'm CC'ing this to the mailing lsit because other devs might be interested in this also)

There is currently very little activity indeed. I don't know the reason for other people, so I'm
speaking only for myself. I'm having a lot of other work and flexcp isn't something high obn my
priority list. I'm doing this pure on goodwill because I'm not able to use it for anything.

I'm pretty certain all the other devs would agree with me that more developers are what this
project needs. There was a stall with a seemingly unsolvable bug in the webserver, I'm not sure if
this has been resolved already.

I'm not sure that being pushy is a good quality for a project manager in an open source project.
Most people contribute when they have time and pushing them might decreese their interest in it.

Nonetheless I hope this will give the entire project the hard needed boost to something usable.

Same here. Although I could use it, I don't need it fast because I 
already use another paid control panel.

Well in this case it isn't really bad to shake some people awake ;)

Busy right now with some stuff, but it would certainly stimulate me if 
there's some activity.

pushy mean to be pushy to get stuff done by the deadline like how
gnome does it if one project is behind and one dev is really busy that
will mean the project maniger will need to go out hunting for devs.

As you know, all our developers are volunteers. We're doing this for fun 
and I would certainly not like it if someone started to push me.

the road maps so to even if <random-package> is not quite finished and
if it not finished they ship with an old version and normally distros
update that package when it comes out

I am currently using web-cp successfully (albeit on a very small scale) 
and I have a vested interest in seeing the project progress (either in 
the form of web-cp or FlexCP).  I've got a couple little pieces of code 
and a skin floating around that I would like to see added in at some 
point.  Mostly aesthetic stuff, but also a decent integration with the 
dovecot IMAP server.  Basically, I would like to write some code for 
FlexCP, but as my skills are limited, I don't really think I have much 
to contribute to the core functionality issues that still have to be 
resolved.

if there is a road map and one module of the project will not be
finished by the the dead line of the project then an old stable
version of that module get relested and when the module finishes and
get stable then another relest of that version of the project get
relested (beside with the gnome project, then its up to the distros).

I don't know the internal structure of the prokect you mention, but most OSS projects don't work
with deadlines. It may work for them, but I'm fairly certain it WON'T work for flexcp.

I would agree with wdv about the punctation. There are three keys that might be helpful to you the
shift key is used to add a capital letter (A instead of a), the comma key (,) and the dot key (.).
Using those makes your text a lot more readable.

Nice to see you again!.

I've tried to fix the webserver-bug (just for 1 hour, 2 months 
ago)....But I was too busy (and no free time in the last months) in 
order to pick up the sources and debug them. :-(.

If the project is still alive, I want to continue involved with it. 
I'm having some free time to spend on it. :)

It's still more or less alive, just in a hibernative(sp?) state. I think that fixing this bug will
lead to more active development. I might just finish the hooks code I was working on :).
