This point to your problem. (last command in the pipeline). buffer choked
after about 700k.

Make sure you've run "flexbackup -test-tape-drive" and you've got the tape
drive, driver, and stuff like blocksize parameters working ok.  See the FAQ.

You could also try streaming large files to the tape directly and make sure
it works.
