I have been using flexbackup for several years including my former life managing about 100 servers. I'm now in the process of switching my main desk top to Linux Mint 19.1. When I perform a level 1 backup of my home directory from my flexbackup server the level 1 is almost as large as the level zero. Looking at the contents of the level 1 tar file shows many files that shouldn't have been backed up. I've manually performed the find command on the client and it seems to be more reasonable. Performing the find command from the server using ssh also seems reasonable. Additional notes: The client file system is on an ssd mounted with noatime. I use flexbackup targeting a motley collection of systems including debian and linux mint on several Intel based systems, several systems running Raspian on Raspberry PIs, and a few systems running bananian on first generation Banana PIs. This is the first time I've encountered any problems. The server is running bananian 160401 based on debian 8.11. the version of flexbackup is 1.2.1. If I was only keeping local copies of the backups on the server this wouldn't be a big deal but the wrapper script I use in production replicates all backups with encryption to Amazon's Commercial cloud. Bytes start to cost money!. |

Hi, I am running version 1.2.1 on debian Jessie, jobs run fine, but the log has this error: root@mail:~# flexbackup defined(@array) is deprecated at /usr/bin/flexbackup line 2688. I have recently followed the sourceforce process to get commit access to "abandoned" projects and hope to apply the fixes that have been developed, clise the bugs that I can. Good find John. I've moved to backupninja for simple backup scripts on newer machines, but still very happy with flexbackup for many tasks. Looks like switching backup $type from tar to 'afio' would be a good simple step until the tar issue gets sorted out. On 1 December 2016 at 15:25, John R. Dear FlexBackup I have been using FlexBackup successfully for the past 8 years on Ubuntu 10.04, 12.04 and 14.04 TLS. I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 TLS and noticed a strange phenomena. When I extract the zipped file, duplicate files are reported in the destination folder. I have attached the following files included in the WinRAR zipped file 1. Flexbackup.conf 2. The original /test folder I backed up 3. The backup file: test.0.201611241425.tar.gz 4. A screen capture of the terminal window of the backup process (text file): TEST FLEXBAKUP SCREEN REPORT 5. The extracted folder: test.0.201611241425 When I extracted the backup file I choose an option to rename duplicate files. In the original folder, there is only one file (eg. Level 6). The file in the extracted folder level6(5) is therefore the 5th copy of the file. I noticed that as I drilled deeper into the directories, that the number of copies increases. Meening that in level 2 there are now 3 copies of the file level 3 there are now 4 copies of the file level 4 there are now 5 copies of the file and so on. After I noticed this problem, I did a fresh install of UBUNTU 16.04 TLS on a different machine and got the same results. On UBUNTU 14.04 LTS it still works perfectly. Would you kindly investigate this matter and let me know. Kind regards Stephan Cilliers |

Dear FlexBackup I have been using FlexBackup successfully for the past 8 years on Ubuntu 10.04, 12.04 and 14.04 TLS. I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 TLS and noticed a strange phenomena. I have recently set up a new machine on Debian wheezy, and, in common with all my systems, I run flexbackup on it. When I do a flexbackup -rmfile all, I see the following warnings: defined(%hash) is deprecated at /usr/bin/flexbackup line 1053. (Maybe you should just omit the defined()?) defined(%hash) is deprecated at /usr/bin/flexbackup line 4886. (Maybe you should just omit the defined()?) Obviously, this isn't actually breaking anything at present, and won't in wheezy, even if it does in jessie. However, it's probably worth noting and bearing in mind for any new version. -- Phil Reynolds mail: phi...@ti... |

Hi, has anyone have seen an issue with flexbackup jobs scheduled from cron, that happen to be schedule to start at the same time.it appears that if this is the case the job fails with the following error. notice 2012-08-16T05:20:01.000-04:00 backup01 backup_job Errors:notice 2012-08-16T05:20:01.000-04:00 backup01 backup_job Can't tie DB /var/lib/flexbackup/index Does flexbackup support simultaneous jobs to start at the same time? -Guillermo |

I'm setting up flexbackup with afio and ran into the .gvfs problem. .gvfs is the mount point of a FUSE filesystem mounted by Gnome in users' home directories and the kernel prevents all other users *including* root from even "stat"-ing this directory. When flexbackup runs find, find dies when encountering this mount point. The only published workaround that I found was to unmount all .gvfs mounts prior to running flexbackup. This is not acceptable. Trying to add the directory as a $prune entry was not successful. However, adding $exclude_expr[0] = '.*/\.gvfs$'; did the trick. find does not try to stat or descend into this directory any more. Adding /home/ to the front of the regex did not work, I do not understand why. But the above is sufficient for me. |

Hello list, I am running flexbackup on debian, version is: flexbackup version 1.2.1 (http://flexbackup.sourceforge.net) $Id: flexbackup,v 1.185 2003/10/10 14:12:09 edwinh Exp $ My problem is that some of the directories/files are encoded he_IL.UTF-8 and are not properly seen while I try a "flexbackup -restore /path/to/file". The files are showing properly in Hebrew in their original locations, but in the restore session, a ls command shows Hebrew as question marks... My guess is that flexbackup uses the wrong encoding, but I did not find a place to set it. Pointer appreciated. Regards, D. |

Some distros maintain a fairly substantial list of patches against 1.2.1. I'm involved with those Gentoo. Many of them are posted on Sourceforge as well. They're all in the form of modest feature additions and bug fixes. - John -----Original Message----- >From: Tim Kellers <tim...@sm...> >Sent: May 13, 2011 11:34 AM >To: fle...@li... >Subject: Re: [flexbackup-help] release > > > >Still using flexbackup-1.2.1_4, here, on FreeBSD. Still using flexbackup-1.2.1_4, here, on FreeBSD. That's the latest on this platform as far as I know. I use flexbackup with dump, so I had to cobble a -L argument into the code to allow flexbackup to snapshot and archive a Live filesystem without unmounting it, but other than that, its pretty much right out of the box.
