#356 Missing MSCOMCTL.OCX

Dear Mr. Coalson,

I believe this common control library is distributed with Visual Basic and I suspect it is needed by the FLAC Front End. I do not have it. I think you are supposed to include it in your manifest. I may be wrong but I think all the installers can handle it quite handily.

Symptoms of installation error:

"There was an error registering a needed file with the operating system; FLAC frontend may not run."

While this error was displayed, the installer showed

"Execute: regsvr32 /s mscomctl.ocx".

Dismissing the error allowed the install to complete, at which point the installer said

"Setup was completed successfully".

The "Show Details" button shows nothing wrong.

Running FLAC Frontend reports an error:

"Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

Please advise. Thanks and Ciao -- Mark

    Hi Mark,

that happens due to the strange management of admin rights in win7.

There is a simple solution, which worked out for me:

    - Copy the file mscomctl.ocx to your windows/system32 folder
    - Start the dos-prompt WITH A RIGHT CLICK as administrator
    - register manually using the line given by you "regsvr32 /s mscomctl.ocx" (without the quotes ...)

    Thats it.

Depending on your system, you might have to do the same steps inside the c:\windows\SysWOW64 directory instead of c:\windows\system32

If this is still a problem with the 1.3.1 release, please re-open.
