I think it would be usefull to have an option for installing
mods with md5sum check (who are not available from
the addon server system) for people who wan't to be
able to install their own private mods.
Hi Super,
do you mean install mods _without_ md5sum check?
If so, you are able to install Addons Server 2.2
(testversion) with developer option. With developer option
you are able to disable md5sum check on mod install.

Hi Achim,
I know about the option to disable md5sum, but thats not
what I meant.
It was just an idea nothing more but I decided to post it here
anyway.
I thought of installing an addon (not available from the addon
server system) with an md5sum check, i.e. the user not only
uploads the addon but also provides the md5sum through the
user interface.
This would allow people to write very specific addons not
desirable for public use or unwanted on the addon server list.
You could also skip the develop install option that way and
allow a mod to install without md5sum check if for example
a 'special secret' develop code is used in the md5sum field in
the GUI. Addons available by the addon server system can be
installed with a blank md5sum field and then use the md5sum
check as it is currently implemented.

hm this is a very spezial thing. Furthermore i dont want to
enter "special secret" everytime i want to test a new addon.
if you dont publish this addon, i presume you can be sure
your package is correct (right md5sum).
-> you dont need md5sum check. Use existing "disable md5sum
check"-checkbox
if your addon is unwanted on the addons server list, provide
md5sum on addon-download-page. User can/may check md5sum or
may check not and disable md5sum check on upload.

Not sure about special secret codes. The thing about secret
codes in open source is they are not secret very long.
Not sure we would want a facility whereby people could
accidently bypass the checksum. Even on the developer
version you have to switch it off.
Do you have an idea of what these not desirable for public
use addons would be? If you could come up with some examples
we might come up with some form of 'export' mode. What we
don't want is people accidently installing addons they think
have been 'approved' by Amigatec only to find they are
really Trojan's.
