Shorewall is in a completely different application space to firestarter, it's a command line, flat file configured, complicated setup.
Firestarter is a desktop firewall configuration, most similar to ZoneAlarm.
Firestarter is the only application of it's type for Linux.

Is there a decent replacement for FS? Shorewall is a complete system install isn't it?
I'm looking for something compatible with Fedora.

Subject: [Firestarter-user] New install without starting firewall

Hi,

I want to install FS.  I'm currently using guarddog/guidedog.

The problem is my server is in a closet with no keyboard or monitor.  I do all my work remotely via vnc and/or webmin.

So if I install FS will it start up and shut me out!???  IOW, will it block vnc?

I need to start it and set my policies BEFORE it shuts me out.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Chuck
