Currently single player is playing against yourself, not against an AI. You simply need to run 1 copy of magic-project and start the server with it, then run a second copy and connect to localhost with it.
The main advantages right now of single-player are to learn the mechanics of the game and to test new cards.

Start one instance of mp (magic-project), game/create a game (Shift+F2)
Then, create a new instance of mp, game/join a game (F2)
