Greetings, As some of you already know, Firemen will be a testing program of a more generic project, called MiniGames. MiniGames aims to create tools to make such "game'n'watch"-kind game, providing a specific simple langage and editor. I've started to write a project specification document, and I would like some of you that would have the time to read and criticise it. A specific mailing-list is currently created (should be available on May, 19th) to help discussing about it. Links : Main site : http://minigames.sourceforge.net (or .sf.net) Project site : http://sf.net/projects/minigames The project documentation (PDF v5 format) : http://minigames.sourceforge.net/project-specifications.pdf Currently, the goal is to achieve a first release of MiniGames by the end of the year, including Firemen (which will serve as a demo for MiniGames). Best regards to you all. -- Thierry Mallard http://vawis.net |

Hello to everyone :-) The new year has just begun, and seems a nice time to work again on Firemen. Some quick news : since september 11th, I've read (on IRC mostly) some comments saying that doing a game where peoples are jumping from a building, with firemen trying to catch them is sad to see for the moment, which I can understand of course... So Fluxy and I are proposing to change the game itself, while keeping the spirit and the main engine. For example, we could move to Parachute (see http://www.gameandwatch.com/screen/widescreen/parachute/index.html) If most of you are ok with this, we should be working on this quite soon :-) Your comments are most welcome, for we'd like to work on it as soon as possible.. Best regards to you all, Shaman -- Thierry Mallard http://www.vawis.net |

Greetings, I've started the port to the SDLApp designed by Nicolas Michel. It is located in the v2/ subdirectory in the CVS. This is a temporary location : when the work is complete, i'll put it back to the src/ subdirectory. SDLApp is a C++ application framework, quite simple and small, still in development. You may find it on the Massacra CVS, under the "tools" module (subdirectory SDL_Tools) Massacra: http://sourceforge.net/projects/massacra I also updated the ROADMAP draft accordingly (added a milestone for this port) Best regards, --=20 Thierry Mallard http://www.vawis.net http://www.goonix-studio.com (new) http://www.worldforge.org http://www.erlang-fr.org |

Hello guys ! I have just commited a new version of FiremenEdit. In tis new version I added : - the mouse management (linked with the GameApp object). - GameLoop Next step : be able to set the cells position. A cell is a graphic unit used for the representation of the different characters positions (non-interactive characters, for Firemen that means the customers). Feed back is appreciate, Bye guys ! Greetings, Quick note : I just tagged the current CVS version to DEMO_06_2001. This code is the 10 seconds demo which i spoke of last week. A tarball is under way, but Sourceforge requires some hours to update the file. I'll let you know when this is ok :-) By the way, thanks to you all that have tested and confirm that this work (= on the mailing list or out of it, no matter). :-) See you soon Shaman PS : Fluxy, I send this mail in BCC for you, as i'm not sure you're on the list again.. --=20 Thierry Mallard | http://vawis.net GnuPG key on wwwkeys.pgp.net | http://erlang-fr.org (new) key 0xA3D021CB | http://worldforge.org |

Hello again, I just understood that maybe I wasn't telling enough of how Firemen will progress in time.. Here are quick notes : - i wanted to make a quick =ABdemo=BB, which is the current CVS. I'll put a tarball on FTP ASAP.. - currently, i'm working on WorldForge for the LinuxTag show (starting 5th july), so until then, I don't think i'll be able to work more on firemen. - the next step is to add interaction. For this, I intend to implement Nico= las Michel's SDL application framework, which should ease the work. - graphics : there is nearly a full set of graphics done, which should allow the game to work. - sounds : there is still need for music (in wanted) and sf/x (to get rid of the boring =AB Woohoo ! =BB ;-) ) - fluxy is working on the firemen editor, and seem to progress quite quickl= y. I just hope that the game will be there when the editor is out ;-) =20 I think that a beta version of the game should be available for the end of july, and a 1.0 release for start of september. :-) All comments welcome, as usual ! :-) Best regards, Shaman --=20 Thierry Mallard | http://vawis.net GnuPG key on wwwkeys.pgp.net | http://erlang-fr.org (new) key 0xA3D021CB | http://worldforge.org |

Greetings there, Fluxy : I tried to compile the current firemen_edit code. It finally compiles, but there is 2 files which contains KDevelop specific paths, which make it not compilable on other plateform.. Here are two small patches to correct this, but I suspect that then you won't be able to compile anymore.. :-( (that's why I didn't commit the change to CVS) Can you confirm this ? Greetings, Fluxy has difficulites with this mailing-list (I'm working on that), but he has commited some code to firemen_edit, which I just tested. The program now initiate openGL subsystem, and can display a menu (use left mouse button). Toggle grid works. Exit too ;-) Nice work :-) To be continued.... Greetings here, :-) The current branch should be interesting to test, and I ask you all to tr= y to compile and run it. There's no interaction in this =ABdemo=BB : you should see a white backgr= ound, the building, the title "Firemen", and the sprite animations. This will last for 10 seconds approximatly, then quit. You everything is ok, you might have a look at the data/misc/* files, and= play with it : you may then change the title place, bitmaps, etc.. without recompiling firemen. If everything is ok, I'll move on to interaction, which should really hel= p for the gameplay ;-) Enjoy ! Greetings, I've started implementing the new design, using STL. Currently, the code should compile and run, but you won't see much : just a black screen, and the program freezes...
