But did you also set the wirecrypt setting to Enabled instead of the default required (which doesn't work with legacy authentication)? Did you also create a legacy user?
The error connection rejected by remote interface however suggests that the server isn't listening on the specified port and ip address or is actively blocked by a firewall.
