Well *I* have provided an alternative on the wiki.firebirdsql.org site for some 
years. All of this had already been done, but nobody was interested :(
The fb copy is no longer working again, but have you even looked at 
http://fbwiki.lsces.co.uk/ which has all of the facilities that were being 
discussed.
