Oh, just noticed you were trying to telnet.  You won't be able to connect with telnet, not now, nor in future.  All inward access now is strictly through a secure tunnel, for which you need a client app and credentials.  If you need access, please email firebird-admins AT lists dot sourceforge dot net explaining what you need and what platform you want client access from.  It's a closed list but one of us will pick up your message.
