Fair enough, I suppose :-) Maybe "fbdirect" or "fbinproc" is what you could
call it instead?

I think the problem with renaming it, though, would be that people looking
for the functionality that it *does* provide (i.e. in-process access to a
database) would also search for "embedded" -- I remember that's how I found
out about firebird in the first place (I wanted an in-process database for a
desktop application, so I googled for "embedded database" and firebird was
on the first page of results)
